Course description

Give old clothes a new life! In this creative weekend workshop, you will explore the possibilities of fashion upcycling, learn basic sewing techniques and transform unwanted garments into unique pieces. The course is taught in English and offers a welcoming space for people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. What to Expect: - Introduction to upcycling and sustainable fashion - Creative repair, alteration and transformation of clothing - Basic sewing techniques using a sewing machine - Exploring materials and reusing existing textiles - Developing and implementing individual upcycling ideas - Sustainable approaches to fashion and consumption How It Works: After a short introduction to upcycling, participants work with their own garments and materials. Through practical exercises, creative experimentation and individual guidance, they develop and realise their own projects. The workshop focuses on hands-on learning, creative exchange and learning by doing in an international and supportive environment. What You'll Learn: After completing this workshop, participants will be able to explain the principles of upcycling and apply basic sewing techniques to repair, alter or transform clothing. They will be able to develop and realise their own upcycling projects and make more conscious and sustainable decisions regarding clothing and textiles. Who This Is For: The workshop is open to anyone interested in creativity, fashion and sustainability. No previous sewing experience is required. Participants should be willing to communicate in English and engage in a diverse, international learning environment. Open to all participants aged 16 and above. Meet Your Instructor: Jana Reiche graduated from the international fashion school ESMOD Berlin and worked as a fashion designer in New York City. With her label “JR sewing”, she developed bespoke garments and her own collections. Today, she leads sewing and upcycling workshops, advises on sustainable fashion consumption and designs resource-conscious clothing using natural materials. Her professional experience in fashion design, garment construction and sustainable practices informs her teaching. www.jr-sewing.de/ Core Concept: My teaching is hands-on, creative and inclusive. Participants are encouraged to explore their own ideas, learn from each other and gain confidence through practical experience. Sustainability, creative expression and the mindful use of existing resources are at the heart of the workshop.
